From November 29 to December 1, 2002, the Centre for Social
Justice held a conference entitled: Social Determinants of Health
Across the Life-Span: A Current Accounting and Policy Implications.
Over 400 Canadian social and health policy experts, community
representatives, and health researchers met at York University
in Toronto, Canada to: a) consider the state of ten key social
or societal determinants of health across Canada; b) explore the
implications of these conditions for the health of Canadians;
and c) outline policy directions to improve the health of Canadians
by influencing the quality of these determinants of health.. Participants
have underlined the urgent need for a reduction in health inequality
by adopting a charter for a healthy Canada. This charter has been
ratified on February 10, 2003. On this Web site, you will find
the presentations of the speakers and the abstracts of over 50
research projects currently being conducted across Canada that
were presented during the poster session of the conference.
